Задание № 1. Прочитайте следующий текст о первых немых фильмах
Упражнение 1. Ответьте на следующие вопросы:
1. Why did the audience of silent movies appreciate them so much?
2. What makes the author think that the first movies provided the audience with a sort of escape from reality? Do you agree with this point of view?
3. Why does the author call the first cinema houses “Cathedrals of Light”? Do you think that this comparison can be applied to modern cinema houses?
4. Are there many people nowadays for whom cinemas is a favorite pastime? Can we claim that cinema is still the most powerful cultural influence exceeding even the press?
5. Do you think that the advent of sound killed the silent movies?

После хроники показали шведский фильм, но, к сожалению, он не дублирован на русский язык, а я сидел так далеко, что не мог читать титры. 4. Голливуд был никому неведомым пригородом Лос-Анджелеса до 1911 года, когда одна кинокомпания начала снимать там фильм за фильмом. 5. Этот фильм - экранизация одного из рассказов Чехова. 6. Когда режиссер, оператор, сценарист и 2 исполнителя ведущих ролей выступили перед началом сеанса, они были тепло встречены зрителями. 7. На кинофестивале показывали и вестерны, и фильмы ужасов, и комедии, но всем им я предпочел мюзикл "Оливер" - экранизация Оливера Твиста. Это было потрясающе! 8. Этот фильм мастерски сделан и очень интересен по тематике. 9. Мне очень понравилось массовые сцены в фильме "Король Лир". И режиссура, и операторская работа великолепны.
